About the Course

Genesis is a two-trimester course. In the first part, we will cover from the creation to the end of Abraham’s life (1:1—25:18).

Genesis comes from the Greek word meaning “origin,” “source,” “generation,” or “beginning.” The original Hebrew title of the book is Bresheet which means “In the beginning.”

This trimester, we will be studying one of the most important and amazing sections of God’s Word—the creation of all things, how sin infiltrated an originally very good creation, how the curse began to effect people and the creation, the flood which came because of all pervasive sin, and the unconditional covenants made between God and Adam, God and Noah, and God and Abraham.

A thorough understanding of the structure and messages of this book is essential for understanding God’s purposes for humanity and eternity and why a Savior is needed. It lays the foundation for all else that happens in the Old Testament. It also shows the reason New Testament authors focus on Abraham’s faith and God’s promises to him as foundational to Christianity.
